Super Seekrit Russian Base @ Poulostrov Kanin, Northern Arctic Circle
Colonel Yuri Petrovich is sad. He's stuck stuck guarding some hunk of metal. It's cold and he hardly sees the sun. Plus, there's the annoyingly perky 20 year-old Nikolai Militov, inviting him to the launch center for a drink. Yuri pretends to be horrified that Nik would suggest abandoning his post and then agrees to the drink.
Nik and Yuri head to the launch center and Yuri comments that it's 11 am and aren't they supposed to raise their glasses at midnight? Nik replies that it's midnight SOMEWHERE. Yuri opens the super seekrit door with the super seekrit fifteen-digit code and doesn't bother closing it behind him because...it would take too much effort? WORST SECURITY GUARD EVAR!
They get to the launch center and the party's already started. Someone calls Yuri "comrade" and he gets all sad faced and emo over the loss of communism and the Soviet Union and then the lights go off. DUN! (Unfortunately, nobody makes an "in Soviet Russia, lights turn YOU off!" joke)
Nik is nervous about the blackout and Sasha (the guy who called Yuri "comrade) assures him that it happens all the time. Yuri flips on his walkie to see what's up. Nothing. Nik asks him if it could be the batteries. He starts flipping out because apparently the only thing that could cause the walkies and the power to go simultaneously is an electromagnetic pulse, which would mean an explosion.
Nik and Yuri hear a sound. Nik says it sounds like a choir. Yuri tells him to shut the hell up and keeps on listening until they hear machine gun fire. Yuri drops his bottle of vodka and Nik starts gibbering about how it can't be happening. Pffft, people drop bottles of cheap vodka all the time! It's not THAT big a-
What? Oh, he means the choir, power outage, and machine gun fire? Carry on, then.
Sasha takes his turn to tell Nik to shut the hell up and then...just sits there. Yuri goes outside to see what's going on and sees complete chaos and hears screams. Hooded figures in black robes and machine guns ...and singing? He runs into one of the attackers and is so shocked by her beauty that he just stands there while she informs him that all his bases are belong to her by disarming him and stealing his launch keys.
He decides that he must be dreaming and lays back in the snow. He figures that since the powers off, the super seekrit weapon they've been guarding can't possibly do any harm. He just chills in the snow...until he starts feeling hot. He starts sweating, He takes off all his clothes and the pain starts. He is melting from the inside and his last thought is that it all must be a dream.

I've started Fantasy In Death. Video games and murder, ooooooh! I would have gotten much farther if I hadn't had that stupid migraine. Oh well. Next book in the series is in November, I think.

Ode to Dorkiness
I ordered books 5 &6 of Boyfriends/Girlfriends/Making Out today. I am ridiculously excited about this. At the rate I keep going with my SwagBucks gift cards, I'll be ordering book 8 on the 30th. I've decided to pretend that 1-8 are the only canon that matters. HEE! I'm getting them in their original so-early-'90's-it-hurts covers! SQUEE! I like the originals so much better than the newer versions. So, they should be coming at the end of next week.
I also picked up Wild Hearts Forever by Cherie Bennett. I vaguely remember this series, but I haven't seen it in forever. I did a little dance in Goodwill upon finding it.
I have to hunt down March through December of the Countdown series and I'll be happy.
It's strange. I have only one book to go before I finish up my Sweet Valley High collection, but I can't bring myself to buy it. The reason? I started these books when I was 10 or 11. I've wanted all of them for over 15 years and if I get this last one...it's over. Yes, I know it's ridiculous! It's not even one of the "good" SVH books!

Soooo, hi?
I actually forgot the password to this blog. This is ironic for many reasons. Now, I have it stored in my browser, so such mishaps won't happen again. Woohoo!
Right now, I'm reading Promises In Death by JD Robb. I don't know, but the last one was kind of painful to read. Don't get me wrong, I adore the characters and all, but the books just kind of seem to run together since after Creation In Death.
This one is where Amaryllis Coltraine is killed and I think it's kind of a cheap choice foor a character death. The only investment the reader has had with Coltraine is her relationship with Morris and her dying is kinda sad, but that's it. I think the impact would have been greater if it had been someone like Webster or Trueheart. Just my opinion.

Carolina Moon
Holy cow, this book is depressing. In the first chappter we have child abuse and the murder of an 8 year-old girl, and it's not even the same kid! I read this book when it first came out and for the life of me I can't remember who the killer is...
I think I remember the matriarch being a major bitch, but that just may be because she named her twin daughters Hope and Faith. Seriously.

Windfall
I've started Windfall, which is the fourth book in Rachel Caine's "Weather Warden" series. I really like this series. I originally thought that the main character, Joanne, would end up being some boring-ass Mary Sue.
Yay for being wrong!

Fade Out
I just finished the 7th book in The Morganville Vampires series by Rachel Caine. I really enjoy these books and highly rec them to anybody into vampires. I just wish the books were longer! Book 8 won't be out until May 2010.

John Bellairs FTW!
When I was in elementary school, John Bellairs' books scared the ever-loving crap out of me. You can imagine how thrilled I was when I found The Curse of The Blue Figurine at Books For Less for about a buck.

Photographic Lulz
Okay, I'm not sure if this cover is a fail or a win and here's why:
The woman on the top left is Lauren. Her hair actually looks light brown. I don't know if it's the light or something, but it makes me happy. The guy getting cuffed is Dash Ramirez. I'm not going to really comment on the perceived white-breadedness ofCover Dude, because I've known some pretty fair-skinned Latinos. Hey, it happens!
Bottom is Melissa and Danny. I like it a lot.
Now, on the right side it appears Dash is being arrested. Well, or into kink. I make no judgments.
On the left, are powdered donuts.
You get where this is going, right?
In other news, the back blurb fails because the character 'Rico Santoya' is called 'Pico Santoya'. Hmmm, don't they pay people to keep that from happening?

Freshman Roommate
Faith ends up with a male roomate named Becker Cain, who turns out to be a manipulative, controlling slimeball, who apparently thinks the way to a woman's heart is plagiarism-by-proxy. Winnie and Lauren are hounding poor Faith throughout the whole book which makes Becker seem even more appealing
Lauren apparently feels nobody has ever been feminist before her. She insults Dash and basically acts like an entitled moron. She assumes that Faith won't mind her taking a nap in her dorm room (you know, the one Lauren doesn't live in anymore?) and assaults Becker by punching him in the face and kicking him in the balls Unsurprisingly, this does not endear Faith to Lauren.
Liza meets Travis (Winnie's Europe trip ex) and discovers Rich evil revenge plot. She ends up completely broke, but Rich's dad is so impressed with her, she actually gets a walk-on part with 5 lines! And Travis kisses her! OOOH!
Melissa is for some bizarre reason hanging out with her track nemesis, Caitlin. This is the same girl who tried to screw up M's relationship with Brooks to distract her from her racing. (Now that I think about it, Melissa should be kissing C's feet.) Anyway, they're doing steroids now.

Freshman Truths
KC meets her mother and discovers her mother's past alcoholism. She deals with this by getting completely shit-faced on Russian vodka. Oh, and a DJ she barely knows trys to get her deepest, darkest secrets.
Liza and Rich are happy. SQUEE! Oh, wait! Rich totally wants revenge on L for swiping his dummy and stuffing him under a bunch of coats and ruining his chances to be on TV. Rich, of course, discovers this after L's interview with Cody.
Kimberly is accused stealing money from the dorms. Why? Basically, because she's black. Guess who the thief is? Melissa! Kimberly gets her rage on in an interview with Cody (for a guy that just showed up last book, he sure gets around fast!)
Lauren gets sick of the poor pitiful me shtick she had going on with Melissa and decides to actually live her life.
Courtney still chases Dash, even though he has no interest in her. Finally, she gets over it and take a job with finance whiz Eric Sutter.

New Anita Blake Book Covers
These are so atrocious. The best AB covers were the old Ace ones. You know the ones that actually have vampires and zombies? Yeah, those. Now, you're stuck with cobers with circulars saws and claw marks that look like nails. I thought they were nails to represent the pounding into the coffin of LKH's writing talent. Alas, no.
I think it's safe to say that when House of Night has better covers than you after going through four diferent styles...there's just no more hope.

Next Book!
I've decided that the next book I will recap will be in the Countdown series by Daniel Parker Don't feel bad if you've never heard of it.
The plot goes thusly, what if everybody over 21 melted into a puddle of black goo and thurvivors were the smeggiest smegheads to ever smeg a smeg?
Be there or be square...

Freshman Dorm Book Cover Fail
So, in the Freshman Dorm book series there is a character by the name of Lauren Turnbell-Smythe. She is described as having light brown hair and being chubby...and apparently the most heinous choice for the "Trash Your Room mate Dance"
I have to ask, though. Why in the purple crap is the girl portraying Lauren blond and not in the least bit chubby?

Late on recap again.
Urgh! I really need to finish up Zoey Fools Around. I start it and get so disgusted with Joke's behavior and it makes me D:
I really want to use this to chronicle the cheesy books I read and random thoughts about movies/tv shows based on books.

Incoherence is bliss
Been inspired. Will write more later. Decided not to finish the AB series. Load off my mind.
